About
The Basics:
Evan Snyder is a 29 year old Network Systems Administrator for a prominent Non-Profit in Seattle Washington. He has a background mostly with Apple products but makes a living working on Microsoft based systems.
The Story So Far:
Evan grew up in the Seattle area in the same town and house his entire life. Shortly after graduating high school he left to see the world by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Evan spent most of his time based out of Washington DC as a Presidential Security Guard; a job which offered many opportunities to travel, not only around the country, but also around the world to several different countries on White House assignment.
After parting ways with the Marine Corps; Evan spent several years working for the Government as a Systems Administrator at a large Puget Sound Naval Base until he decided to leave for Art School. While in school he studied photography and worked full time for Apple in the retail sector as an Assistant Store Manager. Evan spent two years at Apple until he decided the retail industry wasn’t where he wanted to be, especially considering he wasn’t in school anymore.
Evan left Apple for his current employer where he is the only person in the I.T. Department. He researches, manages and implements new technology solutions, supports all end user systems (Windows, Linux and Apple) and administers the server setup (Terminal Server, Exchange Server and SQL Server).
Current projects: Evan is in talks with a local web development firm to completely overhaul the organizations website, constantly winning the battle against SPAM and is almost done re-aligning the entire network configuration since he started almost two years ago (Note: Things move slowly in the Non-Profit world, it takes a lot of planing and managing a small I.T. budget.)
The Gear:
Computers - Evan’s main computer is a 2.16 GHz Black MacBook running OS 10.5 with 2GB RAM, a 160GB hard drive that backs up to a 500GB Time Capsule. He also has an old PowerMac G4 that he hacks into different configurations on a whim and loads several different flavors of Linux and OS X when he’s feeling project oriented. At the moment, though, it is sitting quietly in his office.
Gadgets - Evan jumped on the iPhone bandwagon last June and never looked back. He also has a small collection of iPods (the Apple discount was good to him).
Photography - His main setup is a digital SLR, a Nikon D300, Nikon D70s, 17-55mm f2.8G IF-ED, VR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED with a Speedlight SB-800, a Manfrotto Tripod and a Sekonic Flash Master L-358 light meter. Though, his pride and joy is an all manual SLR circa 1965 that his father purchased for him in high school. It is a Nikkormat FT, 55mm f3.5, 135mm f2.8 and 28mm f3.5. He also has a hand made cedar 4×5 pin hole camera which can be a lot of fun. You can view a small collection of his photography on his Flickr account which he honestly doesn’t use very much.
